Dr. Kim Nicholas will always be remembered for his leadership qualities.  He had the unique ability to have everyone smiling while they were conducting serious business.  The end result was “mission accomplished and aching sides from laughter.”  Since graduating from Washington State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984, Kim became involved in local, state, and national veterinary activities.

He was a representative of the Seattle-King County Veterinary Medical Association (S-KCVMA) to the WSVMA Executive Board, and also was Chair of the Seattle-KCVMA Political Action Committee.  His colleagues, recognizing his leadership abilities, elected him as president of Seattle-KCVMA.  Kim also was editor of the WSVMA Newsletter before being elected to the office of president of WSVMA.

During his working life, Dr. Nicholas hung his smock at the Cedar River Animal Hospital in Renton, WA.  He is proud of his family, which includes two children.  His hobbies include keeping up with the kids, flying (licensed pilot, instrument rated), computers, and woodworking. During his term as president of WSVMA, Kim’s goal was to provide direction and focus, which would allow the talent within the committee structure to function smoothly.  He felt strongly regarding issues that affected veterinarians and was very proactive in standing up to special interest groups that threaten the quality of the profession and the individual.

When searching for a campaign slogan for his election bid to serve as president of WSVMA, he expressed his philosophy of life with the following statement, “Unless you are the lead dog, the view never changes.”
