Don was a 1965 graduate of the University of Washington with a BS in Biology in the College of Education.  He played football for the Huskies while attending the University.  For three years, he taught biology at a high school with two of those years being in Bellevue.

During this time, he became acquainted with Drs. Robert and Jack Carkeek, veterinarians in Bellevue.  He was so impressed with their professionalism that he decided to apply to veterinary school.  He was accepted at Washington State and graduated in 1972 with his DVM degree.  He is presently located at the Aerowood Animal Hospital in Bellevue.

During his tenure as president of WSVMA, Dr. Kelts started the personal story presidential column in the monthly newsletter.  He ran the meetings with a professional touch with the right amount of levity thrown in.  The area representatives and committees had a great year and accomplished their tasks in a timely fashion.  The year finished with an improved membership and bank balance, in other words, a FANTASTIC TERM.
