Dr. Kathy Haigh, 1996

I decided I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was eight years old.  I adored my “Uncle Frank,” and when I found out what he was doing, I decided to do the same thing.  I always loved animals and was naturally good at working with them when they were sick.  I think I would say ‘I was a natural.”

As President, I set out to improve the WSVMA relationship with the veterinary student population.  I consider them the WSVMA future and decided to invest in them.  I established the Student Scholarship Fund and worked with the auction to raise dollars for the endowment to pay for it.  I also established the Past Presidents Committee to manage the fund and to determine the student to accept the award.

In my spare time, I have found time to practice with my veterinary husband in Shelton, WA and to serve as representative to the Washington State Legislature from my district.

Dr. Kathy Haigh was the first female President of WSVMA and served as a State Representative on the WA legioslature for 16 years.
