WSVMA DVM: Masterclass Webinar – Implications of Bone Healing in Private Practice

January 7, 2022

Join us Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2022 at 12pm for our webinar Implications of Bone Healing in Private Practice with Dr. Alex Aguila. A knowledge of the physiology of normal bone healing is influential in determining appropriate recommendations for treatment. Although bone healing is largely perceived through the lens of rigid fixation, the importance of blood supply sometimes needs to be remembered and reviewed. Timing from the incidence of trauma to the point of care is also important, and the role of signalment on timing should not be overlooked in decision-making. With so many factors in play, there are often multiple ways to achieve bony healing, and sometimes compromises need to be made based on circumstances, some medical, some not. A strong knowledge of bone healing is imperative to setting up appropriate client expectations for treatment and prognosis.

Dr. Aguila completed his veterinary degree (Cornell University) in 2000, his small animal surgery residency (Cornell University) in 2002, and earned board certification from the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 2006. Prior to joining Animal Surgical in 2008, he worked in private practice at Bay Area Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX. His published work includes biomechanical studies on locking bone plate technology. Dr. Aguila is now part-owner of Animal Surgical & Orthopedic Center (formerly Animal Surgical Clinic of Seattle), which remains one of the few locally-owned specialty practices left in the region.

All monthly webinars are free for members. They’re recorded and made available on-demand, accessible through the WSVMA website under CE Events/DVM Masterclass. Recorded webinars provide a link to take an exam at the end so that credit can be received for non-live CE.

Note: For the duration of the COVID-19 declared state of emergency, and for 90 days following the end of the emergency, the Veterinary Board of Governors has removed the limitation on the number of pre-recorded webinars that qualify for your total CE hours.

Whether you can join us live or later, don’t miss this important webinar. Register online at the WSVMA website. See the full Masterclass calendar here. And don’t forget to check out our catalog of on-demand and Covid-19 webinars. We’re bringing timely topics in a convenient format meant to benefit you and your practice.
