Dr. Cannon began his veterinary career working as a veterinary assistant after earning a BA Degree in Economics from Washington State University in 1970. He was accepted in the veterinary program and graduated in 1975 with a DVM degree from WSU. That was followed up with a Masters Degree in Veterinary Science in 1978.

John began practice working as an associate veterinarian in Bakersfield, CA in 1976 for one year. He then opened a small animal practice with his wife, Dr. Sharon Cannon, in Spokane, WA. in 1979.

Dr. Cannon has been active in veterinary organizations including the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association, the Inland Empire Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. He has served on the WSVMA Executive Board, the WSVMA-Pac Committee, the WSVMA Public Information Committee and as the Inland Empire President. In the community, John has served on the Board of Directors of Spokane’s Pet Emergency Clinic as well as being president of the organization. He has also served on the Religious Education Board of St Joseph’s Catholic Church.

He and his veterinary wife, Sharron, have four grown sons and one grandson. Their house is a busy one with two dachshunds, a Standard Poodle, a Border Collie Mix, three house cats, two barn cats, and four horses.
