Dr. McCutchan gave these following reasons as he was considering running for WSVMA president, “I have received so much, I feel a strong obligation to give back to the veterinary profession.  It’s a great way to be involved, meet colleagues and stay informed of where the profession is headed.”

Following graduation from WSU in 1981, he joined Pilchuch Veterinary Hospital as a large animal practitioner.  He became CEO in 1995.  In 2008, he opened Seattle Veterinary Specialists, an emergency and specialty practice in Kirkland.  With responsibility for two large practices, a large majority of his time has been spent with management while maintaining a small case load.

Dr. McCutchan served on the WSVMA Executive Board representing the Snohomish VMA.  He also served on the WSVMA Membership Committee and the Ethical Practice of Veterinary Medicine Task Force.  He has been a long-time member in AVMA and AABP.  He has also been active in the business side of veterinary medicine and belongs to Veterinary Management Group (VMG) and Veterinary Specialty Practice Alliance (VSPA).

Dr. McCutchan has a passion for the business of veterinary medicine and the possibilities it presents.  He believes that veterinarians should be encouraged to own and operate veterinary practices and supports training to help them achieve those goals.

His hobbies include playing golf, skiing with his family and traveling.  In 1998, he and his wife climbed to the top of Mt. Rainier, an accomplishment they hope to repeat once each decade.
