WSVMA DVM: Masterclass Webinar – What’s New in Pasteurellaceae: An Old Cause of Respiratory Disease

October 6, 2023

Join us Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023 at 12pm for our webinar What’s New in Pasteurellaceae: An Old Cause of Respiratory Disease with Dr. Claire Burbick. The bacterial family Pasteurellaceae, including Pasteurella multocida, Mannheimia haemolytica and Histophilus somni have contributed to significant morbidity and mortality in ruminant species causing pneumonias, septicemias, and mastitis among other conditions. Making diagnosis more complicated, these bacteria are also components of normal mucosal flora. This course will provide an update on research topics, including virulence and antimicrobial resistance, in familiar members of these common bacterial respiratory pathogens of ruminants. It will also discuss emerging diseases associated with less familiar Pasteurellaceae, like Bibersteinia trehalosi and other Mannheimia species.

Dr. Claire Burbick joined the Washington Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (WADDL) in December 2016. She currently serves as Director of Operations and Section Head of Bacteriology/Mycology in WADDL and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Pathology. In addition, she is Director of the Clinical Microbiology Residency Program, which is responsible for training new veterinary microbiology specialists. Dr. Burbick completed her DVM at Washington State University, as well as her clinical microbiology residency and PhD focused on ruminant immunology. Dr. Burbick’s primary interests include clinical microbiology, antimicrobial stewardship and topics in antimicrobial resistance testing and interpretation of susceptibility data.

All monthly webinars are free for members. They’re recorded and made available on-demand, accessible through the WSVMA website under Education/DVM Masterclass. Recorded webinars provide a link to take an exam at the end so that credit can be received for non-live CE.
