This session reviews the management and treatment of the most common reproductive emergencies in mares and stallions. Dystocia, uterine torsion and management of retained fetal membranes are some of the topics discussed for the mare. Management of scrotal enlargements and breeding injuries are described for the stallion.
Dr. Ciccarelli was born and raised in Italy where she graduated with her DVM in 2013. She completed a residency and achieved a Master’s in Theriogenology in 2017. In 2018 she became a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists and started the next part of her educational journey by pursuing a Ph.D. in Molecular Bioscience in Dr. Oatley’s lab at WSU. In June 2021 she joined the WSU-CVM faculty as an assistant professor in Comparative Theriogenology. Outside of work she enjoys outdoor activities like horse riding, skiing, hiking with her 900 lb. pig, and traveling with her boyfriend and her three ‘ferocious’ dogs.
