Veterinary Board of Governors looking for Board members

February 5, 2021

The Veterinary Board of Governors is looking for a large animal (as a majority of your practice) veterinarian to serve on the Board. They’re looking for public-spirited people willing to study the issues and to make decisions in the public’s best interest. Potential candidates interested in applying must be from congressional districts 2, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.

The Governor’s Office and the Department of Health seek diversity in board and commission members. We recognize the value variety brings in understanding and serving the people of Washington State. We need candidates with diverse backgrounds and those who provide geographic representation throughout the state.

The board operates under a legislative mandate to protect the health and safety of the public and promote the welfare of the state by regulating the competency and quality of health care providers under their authority.

It’s made up of five licensed veterinarians, one licensed veterinary technician, and one public member, all appointed by the governor. Members’ responsibilities may include policy-making, writing advisory opinions and rules, reviewing investigations, and participating in disciplinary hearings and charging panels. The Board meets approximately four times each year. Historically, meetings have been scheduled on the first Monday in the months of March, June, September, and December. Members also participate in conference calls.

More information about the Veterinary Board of Governors is available at the Department of Health website.

Interested veterinarians can access the application here. Then click on the link that says Application – Governor Appointed to complete the process.

Questions about serving can be directed to Loralei Walker, program manager, at [email protected] or (360) 236-4947.
