Dr. Jensen has been involved in many facets of veterinary medicine at the local, state, and national level.  With WSVMA she became involved with the Public Information Committee in 1986 and served until 1995.  After serving as chairman of that committee, she began a longer term with the newly formed Wellness Committee in 1995. For thirteen years, Jayne volunteered with KIRO radio and for eight and a half years with KIRO television doing weekly informational appearances around the veterinary profession.

In 1986, she became a volunteer for the Morris Animal Foundation to inform people and to raise funds for veterinary college animal health studies.  In 1997, she was appointed by Pend Orielle County to direct the veterinary and daily care of over 200 Mastiffs, Golden Retrievers and Bulldogs after the sheriff raided a puppy mill.  She helped the county prosecutors prepare the case, which ended in a guilty verdict. As a solo practitioner, Dr. Jensen has been aware of the many problems facing other veterinarians like herself.  Aside from the daily demands of work schedules, family commitments, and earning a living, she has an awareness of the daily issues of veterinarians as independent practice owners.

From her experiences in public education and on the wellness committee, she realizes the stresses placed on the profession and the need for balance and mental health in our lives.  Addressing these issues has been a focus of her term during president of WSVMA.  In 1998 and 1999, Jayne had the opportunity to assist in the interview process of applicants applying to the College of Veterinary Medicine at WSU.  It was exciting for her to experience the quality of those seeking a career in veterinary medicine.

Coming from a farm background, Jayne settled into a small animal practice in Issaquah at the Tiger Mountain Veterinary Clinic.  She continues to be involved in all aspects of veterinary medicine from WSVMA activities to animal rescue.  Her greatest learning though has come from her colleagues and she expects that it will increase in the future.
