September is Suicide Awareness Month in Vet Med
Suicide prevention is a critical issue that demands compassion, understanding, and action. By promoting mental health education and reducing the prejudice associated with seeking help, suicide prevention awareness aims to empower individuals and communities to save lives. It’s about understanding that mental health is just as important as physical health, and that it’s okay to reach out for help. WSVMA provides the following resources to support the vital need for people within Vet Med to build vital human connections and to stay connected. These resources include:
- A WSVMA Webpage dedicated to Veterinary Wellbeing
- The WSVMA Coffee Club – a monthly meeting where people within Vet Med gather to support each other
- Regular CE Programming focused on Wellness
- Hosting links to the required Suicide Prevention Training for Veterinary Professionals
- Live Wellness components in the PNWVC Program and the Power of Ten Leadership Program
- WSVMA affinity partners Curalinc and MentorVet also have amazing resources.
- We also have a committed cadre of volunteers who are always ready to listen when needed.
No one in our field is alone. If you are in need of help, we encourage you to review the above resources. If you want to connect with a live person then you can email WSVMA CEO Ken Gordon [email protected].
