A new journey begins: Explore the power of diversity

December 9, 2022

The journey is on!

Journey for Teams has released its first educational module – The Power of Diversity – a significant step in our profession’s shared experience of learning and discovery to foster greater diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in our workplaces.

In just 15 minutes, your veterinary team can get an overview of the power of DEI and start down a path toward building DEI support more fully into your workplace. In this learning module, AVMA’s DEI director, Latonia Craig, Ed.D., explores diversity, equity, and inclusion as the core values that hold an organization together.

The Power of Diversity

Diversity asks the question, “Who is in the room?” Equity responds with, “Who is trying to get in the room and can’t?” Inclusion asks, “Is this environment safe for everyone who wants to be in the room to feel like they belong?” Diversity makes us stronger. Equity makes us better. And inclusion builds community.

Visit JourneyForTeams.org to start your learning – and look for a new 15-minute educational module to be released every month.

What is Journey for Teams?

AVMA’s most sweeping DEI initiative to date, Journey for Teams provides a shared pathway for everyone in our profession to deepen knowledge of DEI and help advance DEI in our workplaces. Developed in partnership with the Veterinary Medical Association Executives, Journey for Teams will release a new educational module every month for the next two years.

The practical, actionable modules are intended for veterinary teams to experience and discuss together. They use video, discussion guides, and goal-setting aids to help workplace teams interact with DEI topics in short, organized meetings.

More topics coming soon

Upcoming learning modules coming from Journey for Teams in January and February will cover unconscious bias and psychological safety. Many other topics also are in the works, covering a full range of issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion for veterinary professionals.

Join the journey

Greater DEI in the veterinary workplace fosters healthier team cultures, stronger client relationships, and enhanced patient care. Through Journey for Teams, you’ll foster your own growth and meaningfully impact the lives of colleagues, clients, patients, and the diverse society we all serve.
