Join us Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at 12 pm for our webinar Mental and Emotional Health and Wellbeing in Veterinary Medicine with Saajan Bhakta, Ph.D., and sponsored by People, Pets, and Vets. This session introduces veterinary professionals to practical and actionable techniques that they can use in their day-to-day practice to manage compassion fatigue, anxiety, and stress. The session also highlights methods that veterinary professionals can use to support peers and colleagues who might be at risk for suicide. While suicide can be uncomfortable to talk about, it is important to acknowledge that it is a very real risk, especially in the veterinary profession. Veterinary teams are working tirelessly to care for the pets in their community, but it is important that they don’t forget to care for themselves as well. This session will dive into these various elements of the industry with key takeaways for mitigating associated risks.
Dr. Saajan Bhakta earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and currently works in strategy and operations for People, Pets & Vets, supporting and developing their mental and emotional wellbeing programs. In addition to his role at People, Pets & Vets, he is currently an adjunct professor of psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Outside of veterinary medicine and psychology, Saajan is committed to global service. In 2010, Saajan founded a nonprofit organization, PovSolve, a nonprofit organization that has supported the construction of a school in rural Africa, helped thousands of poor through food services and medical procedures in India, and built water wells in Kenya. Saajan’s research has been published in The Texas Psychologist, The International Journal of Indian Psychology, and by Pennsylvania State University. In 2014, Saajan published his first book titled Be Your Own Hero, an inspirational and empowerment book focused on mental health and overcoming challenges.
