The Department of Health, Health Systems Quality Assurance (HSQA) is accepting applications to fill two veterinarian positions on the Veterinary Board of Governors, public-spirited people willing to study the issues and to make decisions in the public’s best interest.
The Veterinary Board of Governors operates under legislative mandate to:
- Protect the health and safety of the public.
- Promote the welfare of the state by regulating the competency and quality of health care providers under their authority.
The Veterinary Board of Governors is made up of five licensed veterinarians, one licensed veterinary technician, and one public member, all appointed by the governor. Members’ responsibilities may include policy-making, writing advisory opinions and rules, reviewing investigations, and participating in disciplinary hearings and charging panels. The Board meets approximately four times each year. Historically, meetings have been scheduled on the first Monday in the months of March, June, September, and December. Members also participate in conference calls.
More information about the Veterinary Board of Governors is available here.
Important note about eligibility
By law, only one veterinarian may represent a congressional district. Current veterinarian board members represent districts 4, 5, and 6. Please see the attached map to see which areas these districts cover. Unfortunately, if you practice in these areas, your application will likely be disqualified. Please contact me if you have questions.

The Governor’s Office and the Department of Health seek diversity in board and commission members. We recognize the value variety brings in understanding and serving the people of Washington State. We need candidates with diverse backgrounds and those who provide geographic representation throughout the state.
