The news hasn’t changed for Washington veterinary professionals waiting to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Veterinarians and their teams are still not in the queue within any of the phases of vaccine administration. The WSVMA has been in touch again with the Department of Health and we’re still being advised that they don’t know when a determination will be made.
AVMA reported earlier this week that through their federal advocacy efforts, “the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued more detailed recommendations for COVID-19 vaccine distribution, indicating that “veterinary services” should be included in Phase I-b of the vaccine rollout.” AVMA said that “the CDC used guidance from the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices to map essential industries to specific phases of the vaccine rollout, with the goal of helping state, territorial, and local officials allocate limited COVID-19 vaccine supplies.”
We will share the CDC information with the Department of Health and continue advocating on behalf of the veterinary community.
