Dr. Jack Alexander (OVC, 1960), passed away at the age of 88 from pancreatic cancer. Following his graduation from Ontario Veterinary College, he spent two years on faculty, and then in 1962 he joined WSU College of Veterinary Medicine as a surgery instructor. Dr. Alexander made many notable contributions to the profession. He was one of the first veterinarians boarded in radiology and helped to establish veterinary radiology profession-wide. At WSU, he served as radiology section head and as chairman of the Veterinary Clinical Sciences from 1972 – 1985. Retirement came in 2002 after forty years of service. Dr. Alexander also served as WSVMA president in 1978 and received the WSVMA Veterinarian of the Year award in 1999.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Community Congregational United Church of Christ in Pullman. Memorial gifts are welcomed by Pullman Child Welfare, the Pullman Foodbank and the Community Congregational Church of Christ Music Ministries. A veterinary radiology student scholarship fund has also been established in Jack’s name at Washington State University.
