A valued member of the Washington state community, Dr. Kimberly Coyner, DVM, DACVD, tragically and suddenly passed away in a fatal car accident on January 15, 2022. Her loving and faithful husband, Marc Coyner, passed away a few days thereafter. Dr. Coyner was an active member of the Washington state veterinary community and the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. She had a fierce passion for veterinary dermatology and the patients that she so deeply cared for. Dr. Coyner was universally respected and her contributions to the field of veterinary dermatology were myriad, including articles in multiple scientific journals, book chapters, and the publication of her own textbook, the Clinical Atlas of Canine and Feline Dermatology.
For those that had the pleasure of knowing her, Kimberly Coyner was a selfless and loyal friend and a brilliant mentor. She touched the lives of so many dermatologists throughout her career, and her assistance to general practitioners via her work at the Veterinary Information Network advanced the dermatologic care of animals across the country. Dr. Coyner believed absolutely in working to advance the dermatology field in order to provide the best possible standard of care to all veterinary patients.
Dr. Coyner graduated from Colorado State University of Veterinary Medicine in 1994 and completed her veterinary dermatology residency at the University of Georgia in 2001. After her residency, Dr. Coyner worked with Dr. Thomas Lewis at Dermatology for Animals. She then opened her own clinic, the Dermatology Clinic for Animals in Las Vegas, Nevada, before moving her practice to Washington state. For most of the past decade, the Dermatology Clinic for Animals has served the pets and owners of western Washington.
While deeply grieving their passing, the Coyners’ family and associates have determined to continue Dr. Coyner’s legacy. Dr. Coyner’s practice, Dermatology Clinic for Animals, remains active and continues to serve the Washington state community. Dr. Coyner’s associate, Danielle Wyatt, DVM, DACVD, and dermatology resident, Dr. Danielle Tulloss, DVM, DACVPM, remain available for consultations, questions, and continued care of Dr. Coyner’s beloved patients. The Coyners have touched many lives and we send our deepest sympathies to their family, friends, and the veterinary community.
