WSVMA presents April 10 CE program Veterinary Emergency Care (Ophthalmology and Neurology)

April 8, 2022

Join us virtually on Sunday, April 10, 2022, from 12 – 4 pm for our premier WSVMA DVM: Masterclass Intensives, featuring Dr. Allyson Darrow and Dr. Megan Stout Steel and sponsored by Lakefield Veterinary Group.

The first track will be in ophthalmology. Dr. Darrow will cover ulcers and antibiotics, A journey through the various types of ulcerative disease processes encountered in vet med, complimented by antibiotic options and why to pick what, and sorting out Mydriasis, a review of the neuro-ophthalmic pathways which determine pupil size, paired with a discussion of clinical differentials that can present as a dilated pupil.

The second track focuses on neurology. Dr. Stout Steel will cover the emergent assessment and treatment of seizures, the basics of seizure activity, causes, and therapies in the emergency setting. She’ll also cover the down dog, neurologic and non-neurologic causes for a dog being down, neuroanatomic localization, and emergent management for undiagnosed myelopathy.

Dr. Allyson Darrow grew up in southern Oregon and went to vet school at OSU in Corvallis. After completing her residency in ophthalmology at The University of Wisconsin in Madison, she made a beeline back home to the Pacific Northwest, recently joining the growing team at Bridgetown Veterinary Emergency and Referral in Tigard, OR (doors to open summer of 2022!). In her downtime, she can be found pug wrangling and beachcombing.

Dr. Megan Stout Steele grew up in central Pennsylvania and did her undergraduate degree at the Pennsylvania State University before receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine. Following graduation, Dr. Steele completed a small animal rotating internship at the Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Westboro, MA, and then a specialty neurology internship at the Animal Specialty Group in Los Angeles, CA. In 2015 she completed her neurology residency at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and became a Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Her special areas of interest include neurosurgery and Chiari-like malformation. In her spare time, Dr. Steele enjoys spending time with her dogs, goats, and riding horses.

The program will be held virtually and will provide four (4) hours of high-quality continuing education.
