This two-hour workshop will examine the root causes of implicit biases while offering solutions for working equitably through these predispositions.

This 2-hour session will satisfy upcoming health equity training requirements for veterinarians and veterinary technicians.  As you may know WA State legislature passed a health equity law in 2021 (RCW 43.70.613).  For the Vet Med profession this law required that the Veterinary Board of Governors to set standards for diversity focused CE.  The Veterinary Board of Governors passed their new health equity rules earlier in the year, these rules that veterinarians and licensed veterinary technicians undertake a minimum of 2 hours of health equity focused training every four years.

What is health equity?  The Washington State Department of Health states that “health equity exists when all people can attain their full health potential. That means people aren’t disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of the color of their skin, ancestry, level of education, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, religion, socioeconomic status, the job they have, the neighborhood they live in, or whether they have a disability.”

WSVMA will be providing several education opportunities that both meet and go beyond these minimum CE requirements.
