Download AAHA’s new Technician Utilization guidelines and celebrate 30 years of National Veterinary Technician Week

October 13, 2023

Every year, during the third week of October, the veterinary community comes together to celebrate National Veterinary Technician Week, honoring the invaluable contributions of veterinary technicians. This year, on its’ 30th anniversary, it takes place Oct. 15 – 21. These dedicated professionals play a pivotal role in veterinary practices, embodying the perfect blend of compassion, skill, and expertise. Their multifaceted responsibilities are the backbone of quality animal healthcare, making them indispensable members of the veterinary team.

While National Veterinary Technician Week is a time to recognize and appreciate these exceptional individuals who dedicate their lives to the well-being of animals, we should remember to celebrate them every single day of the year. Their diverse skill set, unwavering dedication, and genuine compassion make them indispensable assets to veterinary practices, ensuring that every patient receives the highest standard of care.

Fully utilizing veterinary technicians is essential for the seamless functioning of veterinary practices, including improved patient care and financial sustainability. But many are not used to their potential. The American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) has just issued the “2023 AAHA Technician Utilization Guidelines.” The guidelines include practical tools to help implement optimal utilization, including goal worksheets, workflows, assessment tools, and case examples. Download the guidelines here.

As we celebrate this week, let us express our gratitude for the immeasurable impact veterinary technicians have on the veterinary profession and the lives of countless animals and their families.
