Statement of Candidacy

My interest in being on the WSVMA board stems from a lifelong exposure in the veterinary profession. Both my parents were practicing veterinarians and their involvement in organized veterinary medicine at the State and National level imparted on me how one can have a positive influence in guiding and advancing the future of our veterinary profession.

In veterinary college I was elected as the Student American Veterinary Medical Association (SAVMA) Delegate where I had the opportunity to serve as co-chair of the Governmental Affairs Committee (GAC) and the student liaison for the Political Affairs Committee (PAC). I was awarded a scholarship to attend the annual AVMA Leadership Conference in Chicago, IL. I attended the Cougar Orientation Leadership Experience (COLE) in 2008 and the AVMA Veterinary Leadership Experience (VLE) Theta class in 2011. I was selected as a WSVMA Power of Ten participant for the 2017/218 class. Since 2019 I have been the WSVMA Power of Ten curriculum coach. I am excited to continue and grow my involvement in organized veterinary medicine.

I have seen and experienced these positive impacts that one can have by participating with colleagues in collaborative efforts to identify and bring solutions to the myriad of issues that face the veterinary profession. My focus for being on the board is to not only give back to the profession but make a positive impact on the future of the profession by bringing my past experiences to the WSVMA Board of Directors.

Dr. Wubben developed her fondness for animals and medicine at an early age, being the daughter of two veterinarians and growing up on a farm in Ridgefield, WA. She received her DVM degree from WSU in 2012. She practiced in a mixed animal veterinary hospital in SW WA before family job transfers necessitated spending a few years moving around the country from Maryland to Hawaii to California. While in Maryland she worked for the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) as a Veterinary Medical Officer in response to the High Path Avian Influence outbreak. In 2017 Dr. Wubben and her family moved back home to Ridgefield, WA to settle permanently as Kristi began developing her professional and business skills at her current practice. In 2020 Dr. Wubben received her certification in Canine Rehabilitation Therapy from the Canine Rehabilitation Institute and is now the lead veterinarian in the Rehabilitation Center at Mountain View Veterinary Hospital. She is passionate about the human animal bond, organized veterinary medicine and leadership development. When not working, Dr. Wubben enjoys spending time outdoors with her family hiking, skiing, gardening, and going on adventures.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is now paramount in both the veterinary profession and our society at large. By doing so, we will strive to provide opportunities for all to have a career in our profession. We must educate and bring awareness to our members that critical engagement must occur to maintain a viable and healthy veterinary profession. I am in total support of the goals and statements that the WSVMA and the AVMA are advancing on this issue. I will advocate on all levels of our profession the commitment that the WSVMA is challenging all of us to engage in. This focus aids in bringing valuable insight, different perspectives on solutions to important issues and creates a healthy platform for all to provide input to further grow, strengthen and excel within our veterinary profession.
