Dr. Brian Hunter (WSU, ’79) passed away last month at the age of 66 from kidney cancer. Dr. Hunter was the owner of Hunter Veterinary Clinic in Spokane, which he took over from his father Dr. Fritz Hunter (WSU, ’45) who started the clinic with his wife in 1953. Dr. Hunter was best known for his long-time service to the veterinary profession and local community. He served as the president of the Inland Empire Veterinary Medical Association for 27 years as well as serving on WSVMA committees. The WSVMA honored him in 2008 with the Veterinarian of the Year award to recognize him for his lifelong contributions, including leadership and educational programs for the veterinary community, and for establishing a dog bite prevention educational program for children. Memorials may be sent to the WSU College of Veterinary Medicine “to help the next generation of veterinarians.”
