Dr. Pat Gavin (WSU, ‘71) passed away on June 26, 2019 at the age of 72 after battling prostatic cancer. Following graduation, Dr. Gavin began veterinary practice in Ft. Collins, CO and then went back to school for his PhD in Radiation Biology from Colorado State University. In 1980, he became boarded by the American College of Veterinary Radiology in radiation and radiation oncology. Dr. Gavin was on faculty at WSU/CVM for 29 years, serving as Department Chair of Veterinary Clinical Sciences for eight of those years. He authored over 200 papers and continued radiology consulting after retirement from WSU. Donations may be made to Cancer Care Services, 1205 Hwy 2, Ste 101B, Sandpoint, ID 83864.
Dr. Michael Lust (WSU ‘65) passed away on August 26, 2019. He was 79. A native Washingtonian, Dr. Lust spent his 40-year career practicing mixed animal medicine in the Yakima Valley. In 1989, he founded the Summitview Cowiche Veterinary Clinic in Yakima, which he later co-owned with his son, Dr. Ken Lust. Dr. Lust served on the WSVMA Executive Board representing the Yakima area, and later as WSVMA president in 1980. He also served on the Veterinary Board of Governors.
