New Ebola handouts for veterinarians

The AVMA announced this week that they have developed two handouts to assist veterinarians with issues related to pets and Ebola. The handouts are the result of a coordinated effort between the AVMA, CDC, USDA, and other agencies and experts. The Checklist for Practicing Veterinarians (AVMA login required) was developed to aid veterinarians who may be confronted with a patient or client who has potentially been exposed to the Ebola virus. The Pet Owner’s Guide to Ebola Exposure (AVMA login required) is a simple flowchart that veterinarians can use as a handout to provide guidance for clients. The Guide is based on the “Interim Guidance for Public Health Officials on Pets of Ebola Virus Disease Contacts” developed by the AVMA and the other groups.

The resources, available only to AVMA members, are available on the AVMA website (AVMA login required) along with other Ebola information. The WSVMA also has posted Ebola resources on the WSVMA website.
